Head of Infrastructure

Remoto100%
🌎 Full-Remote🎯 Product🌎 International team💥 Leadership

These days, whenever we need something, we go straight to the internet. That’s why businesses need to make sure they’ve got a solid strategy for both online and physical presence. Uberall brings both of these solutions together in one platform. Yep, just one.

Now they are seeking for an exceptional Head of DevOps to join the team, and believe me, this is one of those opportunities you don't want to miss out.

¿Qué harás?

Uberall is a digital marketing company founded in 2013 by two German friends with a clear mission: to help businesses connect with their customers. They started as a tool for managing business information in online directories (yep, like the good old Google Maps). But they quickly realized they could use their tech to offer businesses much more comprehensive solutions.

They’ve now developed 8 products that help businesses list all their locations, boosting their SEO, attracting new customers, building their online presence, and staying connected with their clients through social media.

Uberall has grown rapidly 🚀, and from Berlin to the world, it’s become one of the leading local digital marketing companies. They have over 1,800 clients, including big names like McDonald's 🍔, Starbucks 🥤, Shell ⛽, KFC 🍗, and SEAT 🚗.

But this is just the beginning—Uberall is growing at a rapid pace, with the business expected to expand by around 50% by mid-2025. This presents a huge challenge, as they need to be ready to welcome all these new customers, and the team must be prepared to scale accordingly!

The DevOps team is cross-functional, so you'll often be meeting with the Director of Engineering and the engineering team to oversee and plan the roadmap, identify bottlenecks, organise the team, and get them ready for what's ahead. At Uberall, leadership is all about setting the example, so they're looking for someone hands-on, willing to roll up their sleeves when needed.

¿Cómo lo harás?

The team structure at Uberall exciting, full of purpose, structure, and agility. Ana, their CTO, oversees 5 Directors. Each Director is in charge of a specific "galaxy," and each galaxy is made up of 4 teams or squads.

In between, they have 2 Staff Engineers and 2 Principal Engineers, who work across teams and are assigned to different squads based on the needs of the project at hand.

Each squad is multidisciplinary, made up of both backend and frontend developers. On top of that, they have two cross-functional teams: DevOps and QA.

While Uberall’s Engineering team doesn’t follow TDD strictly, they put a lot of emphasis on testing. Every line of code that goes to production goes through multiple tests. Unit and integration tests are handled by the developers, while functional tests are the responsibility of the QA assigned to each squad. Just to give you an idea… they have a monolith with over 20,000 unit and integration tests! Impressive, right? 😉

Uberall is all about agile ❤️ and they follow all the rituals like dailies, weeklies, retros, and more. Most teams hold their daily stand-ups in the early afternoon to provide more flexibility for the team. 🍴

The DevOps team consists of 5 people, with 4 based in the EU and 1 in Argentina. They follow a Kanban approach, working with roadmaps and light sprints. In each sprint, one or two engineers take the lead on a project. While the work is split into sprints, the methodology is primarily Kanban.

To stay in touch and keep the good vibes flowing, everyone’s just a click away on Slack. However, since Uberall is made up of people from different countries, English is the common language. It’s essential for the new joiner to have a solid command of English since they’ll be working with colleagues from places like Italy and Egypt.

We could go on with endless details, but since a picture is worth a thousand words…

¿Cuándo trabajarás?

You'll have plenty of flexibility to organize your day, as long as you're available for key moments to move things forward with the team. One of these moments is the daily stand-up with the DevOps team at 15:00 CET, as well as monthly check-ins with AWS.

Some members of the team are spread across Europe, but also Argentina, but despite the different time zones, everyone makes sure to overlap between 9 am and 6 pm (GMT) to sync up and get things done.
